What is SSL and VPN?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a protocol developed by Netscape to secure transmission of data between the client and server. It was soon adopted by, among others Microsoft Internet Explorer and other leading Internet browsers, providing a secure means to transact data in encrypted form on the web, most commonly seen with e-commerce sites with credit card payments for purchases.
